CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon)
CFC and HCFC refrigerants are detrimental to the breakdown of the ozone layer and the greenhouse effect. CFC is an abbreviation of chlorofluorocarbon; HCFC is an abbreviation of Hydrochlorofluorocarbon. They describe the molecules’ atom content.
Chilled beams
Passive and active chilled beams are used for cooling building air. Passive chilled beams cool the inside air without the noise and expense of ductwork and air handler units. Active chilled beams generally have much higher sensible cooling capacities than passive chilled beams.
Chilled room
A chilled room is a refrigerated area for cold storage of perishable items, especially food, to preserve them. In a chilled room the temperature is typically between 0 - 5°C.
Chiller
A chiller is a component that is used to cool water. The cooled water is pumped from the chiller to a water/air or water/water heat exchanger, where it can be used to cool air or water respectively.
Coil passes
Passes is the term that describes the number of times a pipe circuit has passed the face in an air cooler, dry cooler or condenser.
Cold store
A cold store is a refrigerated area for cold storage, a refrigerated building, or an area for keeping goods, especially food, in cold conditions to preserve them.
Compensator
A compensator can be built-into a heating system to absorb pipe linear expansion as an alternative to an expansion loop.
Compressor
A compressor is the heart of a cooling system. It increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume.
Condensate pump
A condensate pump is used to pump condensed water in cooling systems.
Condenser
A condenser is used in a cooling system. A condenser removes heat from cooling medium that flows through it. The cooling medium can be one of several coolants.
